My name is Heidi Burns and I am the School Improvement Specialist at Martin City Elementary. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph's College in Indiana and my Masters of Arts in Education Degree from Baker University.
This is my 18th year teaching in Grandview. I was a first grade teacher at Conn-West Elementary for 10 years before moving to Martin City to become a School Improvement Specialist. I work with students in grades K-5 focusing on math and language arts skills. Students that work with me receive additional small group differentiated instruction to fit the needs of individual students and grade levels.
As the School Improvement Specialist I also oversee any reading/math additional testing that may be required to determine a student's current academic level. I attend academic meetings with teachers and parents to discuss any concerns about a student's progress and I develop Reading Improvement Plans for students in 4th and 5th grade based on MAP scores.
In addition to being a teacher, I am married and a mom to three beautiful children. My husband's name is Rob. My children are Keegan (14), Kenley (9) and Kamden (9). They keep me very busy with soccer, volleyball and baseball. I also enjoy shopping, cooking and working out.
If you ever have any questions about your child's progress or need additional resources at home to assist in your child's learning, please contact me. My office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:35am-4:25pm.
